Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Substance Use Clinician to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our Mental Health and Substance Use Services team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to individuals and families affected by mental illness and substance use disorders within the South Asian community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide client-centered care through a trauma-informed approach and evidence-based practice to individuals and families affected by mental illness and substance use disorders.
  • Conduct initial screenings of referrals to determine appropriate treatment based on client needs and best practices.
  • Assess client needs by gathering information and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to determine the best approach to care.
  • Provide first-level intervention and support until formal treatment or further assessment can be conducted.
  • Develop and implement recovery-oriented treatment options and plans through collaboration with clients and natural supports.
  • Facilitate client utilization of appropriate community services and rehabilitative programs.
  • Provide referrals to community treatment alternatives and services, including residential programs, family therapy, and addiction treatment.
  • Utilize community resources to develop supportive and rehabilitative programs for clients and their families.
  • Provide education to clients and families on mental health and substance abuse issues, the recovery process, and relapse prevention strategies.
  • Maintain client records and ensure access to and disclosure of information and records are in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act.
  • Develop linkages with other facilities and community resources to improve access, integration, and coordination of mental health services.
  • Promote quality improvement through recommendations on policies, processes, and procedures that streamline and provide for more efficient and effective client-centered practices.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in an applicable social or health sciences program such as Counselling Psychology or Social Work.
  • Two years' recent related experience working with clients and families with, or affected by, mental illness and substance use disorders.
  • Eligible for registration with relevant/applicable professional association.
  • Valid B.C. Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for work-related purposes.
Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Punjabi/Hindi and English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented approach; concurrent disorders; addictions and addictions counselling.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of relevant Acts such as Mental Health Act, Freedom of Information Act, pertinent regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis and professional practice guidelines for the treatment of various disorders.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals, groups, and interdisciplinary professionals through understanding the frameworks of other disciplines.
  • Ability to assess, plan, organize, implement, evaluate, and problem-solve, and organize and prioritize workload in a complex environment.
