Substance Use Clinician - South Asian Community

Seeking a dedicated Substance Use Clinician to provide culturally competent care and support to the South Asian community affected by mental illness and substance use disorders.


Responsibilities:
  1. Perform initial screening of referrals to determine appropriate treatment based on client needs and best practices.
  2. Assess client needs by gathering information and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to determine the best approach to care.
  3. Provide first-level intervention and support until formal treatment or further assessment can be conducted.
  4. Develop and implement recovery-oriented treatment options and plans through collaboration with clients and natural supports.
  5. Facilitate client utilization of appropriate community services and rehabilitative programs.
  6. Provide referrals to community treatment alternatives and services, including residential programs and vocational programs.
  7. Provide education to clients and families on mental health and substance abuse issues, the recovery process, and relapse prevention strategies.
  8. Maintain client records and carry out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements.
  9. Develop linkages with other facilities and community resources, and advocate on behalf of the client and others to improve access to mental health services.
  10. Promote quality improvement through recommendations on policies, processes, and procedures that streamline and provide for more efficient and effective client-centered practices.
  11. Participate actively and collaboratively in team planning, team meetings, committees, and corporate initiatives.
  12. Maintain current and relevant mental health and substance practice through reviewing literature and research, consulting with clinical and community experts, and participating in professional development activities.

Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in an applicable social or health sciences program such as Counselling Psychology or Social Work.
  • Two (2) years' recent related experience working with clients and families with, or affected by, mental illness and substance use disorders.
  • Eligible for registration with relevant/applicable professional association.
  • Valid B.C. Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for work-related purposes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Punjabi/Hindi and English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented approach; concurrent disorders; addictions and addictions counselling.
