Shared Health is dedicated to enhancing the planning and coordination of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services throughout Manitoba. The organization also provides certain province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for health organizations in Manitoba.
Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Home Care Resource Coordinator, the Personal Care Assistant (PCA) plays a vital role as a member of the Home Care team. The PCA is responsible for delivering personal care and home support services to individuals or groups of home care clients as designated. Following an established care plan, the PCA provides essential services to assist frail, physically disabled, and/or mentally challenged clients of all ages, enabling them to remain in their homes safely for as long as possible.
The incumbent will demonstrate the ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, methods, and actions to be taken in unusual situations. The role is performed in alignment with the mission, vision, and values, as well as the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.
Qualifications:
• Completion of Grade 12 education is required.
• Home Care Attendant Certificate or Health Care Aide Certificate with a community component from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• Knowledge of Safe Food Handling practices.
• Previous experience working with elderly or disabled individuals in a community setting is preferred.
• Experience in a home care program is considered an asset.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is essential.
• Proficiency in both official languages is required for target and designated bilingual positions.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality across various formats.
• Capability to meet the physical and mental demands of the role.
• Strong work ethic and attendance record.
Conditions of Employment:
• Completion and maintenance of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check, as applicable.
• All Health Care workers must be immunized as a condition of employment in accordance with Southern Health-Santé Sud policy.
• A valid Class 5 driver's license, an all-purpose insured vehicle, and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00 are required.
