Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is dedicated to enhancing the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across the region. The organization also provides essential health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for health organizations.
Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Home Care Resource Coordinator, the Personal Care Assistant (PCA) plays a vital role within the Home Care team, delivering essential personal care and support services to assigned home care clients. Following an established care plan, the PCA provides paraprofessional assistance to individuals who are frail, physically disabled, or mentally challenged, enabling them to remain in their homes safely.
The incumbent is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in prioritizing tasks, determining appropriate work methods, and addressing any unusual situations that may arise. This role is performed in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the organization, as well as the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.
Qualifications:
• Completion of Grade 12 education is required.
• Home Care Attendant Certificate or Health Care Aide Certificate with a community component from a recognized post-secondary institution is necessary.
• Knowledge of Safe Food Handling practices is essential.
• Previous experience working with elderly or disabled individuals in a community setting is preferred.
• Experience in a home care program is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Proven critical thinking skills are required.
• Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is necessary due to the region's diversity.
• Proficiency in both official languages is essential for designated bilingual positions.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in all formats is crucial.
• Must meet the physical and mental demands of the role.
• A good work and attendance record is expected.
Conditions of Employment:
• Completion of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check is required.
• All Health Care workers must be immunized as a condition of employment in accordance with organizational policy.
• A valid Class 5 driver's license, an all-purpose insured vehicle, and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00 are required.
