Commercial Mortgage Underwriting Finance Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Commercial Mortgage Underwriting Finance Specialist to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for a student looking to gain valuable experience in the field of commercial mortgage underwriting.
Job SummaryThe successful candidate will assist our Commercial Mortgage Underwriting team with the underwriting of CMHC-insured commercial mortgage loans. They will be trained on all aspects of underwriting, including analysis of rental income streams, borrower financial strength, and key risk factors inherent in the lending decision.
Main Responsibilities- Analyze and underwrite CMHC-insured commercial mortgage loans (60% of time) - The intern will spend most of their time analyzing and underwriting CMHC-insured commercial mortgage loans, performing annual reviews of the portfolio of CMHC-insured loans, and ensuring compliance with established lending guidelines and procedures.
- Communicate with external contacts (origination partners) and internal contacts (funders, managers, administrators) (10% of time) - The incumbent will communicate with external contacts and internal contacts to ensure that mortgage loan transactions are processed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Time management of deal flow (10% of time) - The incumbent is responsible for managing their deal flow effectively to meet prescribed deadlines.
- Assist with various credit-related and administrative duties (20% of time) - The intern will assist with various credit-related and administrative duties such as reporting, pipeline management, and ad-hoc projects.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Current enrollment in a University or College program (Finance, Business, Accounting, or Economics preferred)
- Demonstrated ability using MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to respond in a clear, concise, and professional manner
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
