Job Summary:

The Associate Chair position at Algonquin College is a key role that provides management functions in support of the Chairs of the Academic Departments in the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence. This includes investigating student complaints, reviewing academic appeals, and monitoring academic dishonesty cases. The successful candidate will also be responsible for facilitating the completion of grade review processes, managing probationary students, and working with the Academic Integrity Office to enhance the student experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with students to resolve issues and enhance their experience.
  • Provide performance development and enhancement of the other-than-full-time professor/instructor/technician/technologist pool.
  • Lead academic leadership initiatives related to the student experience, including managing a staff complement of two.
  • Participate in program evaluation, marketing promotions, and continuous improvement of the student experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a four-year degree related to management, education, social sciences, and/or a related construction field.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in increasingly responsible roles.
  • Experience meeting, listening, and talking one-on-one with people.
  • Experience dealing with difficult situations.
  • Experience delivering formal presentations to varied audiences.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to teaching excellence and quality education from a student perspective.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience in curriculum development, teaching/instruction, and preparation of teaching materials would be an asset.
  • Experience dealing with student situations would be an asset.
  • Construction background or experience or subject area would be an asset.
