Safety Management Specialist

The Health and Safety Advisor will play a pivotal role in driving the consistent application of policies, standards, and procedures at the field level. As a subject matter expert, this individual will lead the implementation of the Health and Safety strategy, ensuring adherence to all legislative requirements and business standards. This position will foster strong relationships within teams and influence others to maintain a culture of safety across operations.
Key Responsibilities:- H&S Expertise: Provide support to execution teams in interpreting applicable OHS legislation, industry standards, and H&S programs. Ensure workers understand training requirements and operational standards.
- Authority on H&S Programs: Serve as a key resource, speaking with authority on company programs, processes, and safety standards, ensuring consistent adherence.
- Strategy Implementation: Assist in aligning H&S goals with the business strategy, supporting the execution of H&S strategies and goals.
- Contractor Safety Oversight: Participate in project-specific safety document reviews and contractor performance meetings to ensure compliance and best practices.
- H&S Planning: Ensure that H&S planning aligns with business growth strategies and objectives.
- Counseling and Empowering: Coach and motivate field teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to take ownership of their H&S responsibilities.
- Effective Communication: Communicate timely and relevant H&S information to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Stewardship of Safety Management Systems: Ensure safe performance within the Operational Integrity Management System (OIMS) and manage related H&S requirements.
- Sustainability of H&S Practices: Assist in building and sustaining a tailored H&S capability platform to meet the specific needs of field operations.
- Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Collaborate across the organization to share best practices, lessons learned, and enhance knowledge management within the H&S domain.
- Legislative Compliance: Stay updated on emerging H&S legislation and issues, ensuring assets comply with the latest requirements.
- Field Support: Respond to H&S support requests from operational teams and functional leaders in the field.
- Work Eligibility: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Industry Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably in Major Projects, with a focus on H&S.
- Field and Construction Safety: Demonstrated experience in both field and construction safety practices.
- OH&S Education: Relevant OH&S certifications such as NCSO, CRSP, or CRST.
- Driver's License: A valid Class 5 (non-GDL) driver's license is required; driver's abstract required.
- Safety Audits & Inspections: At least 5 years of experience performing safety audits and inspections.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Health and Safety management systems.
- Proficiency in MS Office: High proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook).
- Standards Familiarity: Willingness to gain in-depth knowledge of company H&S standards, policies, and procedures.
- Decision-Making: Ability to make effective decisions under tight timelines and pressure.
- Problem Solving: Proactive in seeking understanding and solutions for H&S challenges.
- Process Safety Training: Process safety-related training (PHA/HAZOP, LOPA, P&ID Interpretation) is an asset.
- Drug & Alcohol Testing: Must be able to pass Drug and Alcohol (D&A) and Fit for Work (FFW) testing.
