Job Summary

The City of Ottawa's Transit Fleet and Facilities Maintenance team is seeking a skilled Truck and Coach Technician to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance repair team, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of duties, including diagnostic inspections, general mechanical overhauls and repairs, and daily maintenance repairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct diagnostic inspections of vehicles to identify and repair mechanical issues
  • Perform general mechanical overhauls and repairs, including unit changes and repairs to Fleet vehicles
  • Perform daily maintenance repairs, including routine checks and maintenance tasks
  • Operate within a computerized Fleet Management Information System
  • Use tools and equipment with precision to perform repairs and maintenance tasks
  • Communicate effectively with team members and management to ensure smooth operations

Requirements

  • Completion of a Truck and Coach Technician apprenticeship program of 6720 hours
  • Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Truck and Coach Technician 310T
  • Considerable knowledge of vehicle systems and standard methods, tools, and equipment used in the trade
  • Diagnostic equipment and personal computers with ability to use the Fleet Management Information System
  • Safe work practices of the trade and knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with team members
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time and in uncomfortable or confined positions on occasion
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to moderate amounts of noise, dust, grit, oil/grease, fumes, solvents, paints, lacquers, hot/sharp metals, and surface finishing products
