The Opportunity

Emera Newfoundland, a leading energy company, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Corporate Accountant to join its Finance team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance, this role will lead professionals at our Newfoundland or Halifax Office location, offering a hybrid work option.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accounting and Financial Reporting: Oversee the month-end close process, review and approve journal entries, prepare monthly results package for management, maintain general ledger, and analyze financial results.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Prepare semi-annual forecasts, annual budget, and annual long-term forecast.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Support in the preparation of regulatory reports and tax filings as needed.
  • Team Leadership: Oversee a small accounting team (1-2 employees).
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Commerce with significant related work experience and an accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA).
  • Experience with financial reporting systems and Excel.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory Accounting is an asset.
  • Detail-oriented with strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple deliverables and work independently under tight deadlines.
