Senior Technical Administrator

This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, where you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and support to our computer labs. You will work closely with faculty, instructors, and departments to implement requirements for teaching, learning, and research in UVic computer labs.
As a Senior Technical Administrator, you will be responsible for managing physical and virtual computer labs, including hardware, software, policies, and management tools. You will also be responsible for supporting and maintaining computing facilities, including software packaging, licensing, and updates, as well as implementing appropriate cybersecurity controls.
We are looking for a highly motivated and organized individual with a strong background in IT and experience in managing computer labs. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
This is a full-time position, and the salary range is $72,242-$93,951, depending on experience. The University of Victoria offers a comprehensive benefits package and a supportive work environment.
Key Responsibilities- Manage physical and virtual computer labs, including hardware, software, policies, and management tools.
- Support and maintain computing facilities, including software packaging, licensing, and updates.
- Implement appropriate cybersecurity controls.
- Develop faculty-specific digital learning environments where required.
- Train and support users of the computer labs, including students, faculty, instructors, and more junior staff.
- Translate requests for software and computing environments into technical requirements and implement solutions following best practices and university policies.
- Respond to problems encountered in computer labs.
- Maintain hardware and software inventory and configuration details.
- Manage small to medium projects to deliver new or updated computer labs.
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, Business, or other relevant discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in IT support, including experience operating and maintaining computer labs or computing facilities.
- Experience resolving complex IT problems related to Windows, Mac, and Linux computers.
- Experience solving complex IT problem escalation and resolution.

- Demonstrated experience leading and motivating a team of professionals.
- Ability to train and mentor others to help them achieve their goals using technology.

- Develop work plans and monitor progress to ensure goals are met.
- Ability to identify and analyze issues with complex systems, develop solutions, and implement effective strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
- Ability to collaborate, build and maintain positive relationships with diverse individuals and work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and understand their impacts on IT support quickly.
