Key Responsibilities- Conduct initial screenings of clients seeking admission, ensuring their behavior meets acceptable standards as outlined in our Policy and Procedure manual.
- Complete client intake forms, assisting clients in completing the Social Services intake form (pink sheet).
- Update or commence new client file cards, registering clients and assigning beds as needed.
- Provide meal tickets or prepared bag lunches according to approved procedures, using discretion based on shift schedules.
- Complete hourly security rounds of the facility, checking washrooms, stairwells, fire exits, and doors.
- Record activities and incidents occurring during shifts in a factual and concise manner using Log Books and/or Incident Books.
- Answer telephones and provide inquirers with necessary direction.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the Front Desk area, including the storage area for food.
- Contact emergency services when necessary.
- Complete incident reports, statistics, and cash reports before completing shifts.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding clients, staff, and Centre records.
- Work closely with supervisors and carry out assigned tasks.
- Call in relief workers as needed, following established procedures.
- Perform bed checks according to approved procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of The Salvation Army Booth Centre Policy and Procedures Manual.
- Meet with Program Managers for supervision as scheduled.
- Engage in formal evaluation sessions with Program Managers at six and twelve months in the first year and annually thereafter.
- Model appropriate qualities for this position, including self-motivation, punctuality, and personal hygiene.
- Commit to and sign the agency and clients' confidentiality form.
- Attend staff meetings, staff training workshops, and conferences as authorized by the Centre.
- Work within the mandate and mission of The Salvation Army.
- Represent The Salvation Army Booth Centre in a professional manner.
This is a permanent part-time position with 15 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required, and the work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor.
Applicable shifts include a 1⁄2 hour paid meal break.
May work with potentially aggressive clients.
Qualifications and Education Requirements- Post-Secondary Education preferred and/or a combination of education and related life experience.
- Possess current WHMIS, First Aid, and CPR certificates.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrate knowledge of community-based resources.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.
- Competent on computer equipment such as Windows, Microsoft Office, HIFIS, etc.
- Ability to establish and implement goals and plans for self and clients.
- Maturity and ability to exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to work with socially disadvantaged people who may often harbor resentment and anger.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and under supervision.
- Ability to lift/carry up to forty pounds.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
