About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Nutritionist to join our Healthy Communities Team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our team to address local population health needs and take action to improve population health and reduce health inequities.

The Nutritionist will be the lead on healthy eating and food security initiatives, and will also participate in other health promotion work as needed. They will work with community partners across multiple levels to take action and advance policy and system change to create supportive social, economic and physical environments that protect and promote health.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in community-based public health, with experience in planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition and food security related programs, policies, services, and initiatives. They will also have demonstrated knowledge translation and communication skills, including written and verbal.

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about creating healthy communities and has a strong understanding of health equity and the impacts on health. The successful candidate will be able to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting with a strong focus on citizen/community.

About You
  • We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor degree in Human Nutrition plus 5 years community-based/Public Health experience OR Masters' degree (plus undergraduate degree in Human Nutrition) in Community Nutrition/Public Health/Health Promotion plus 2 years community-based/Public Health experience.
  • The ideal candidate will be licensed with (and a member in good standing) a provincial regulatory body (Nova Scotia College of Dietitians and Nutritionists) and hold PDt (Professional Dietitian) or RD (Registered Dietitian) designation.
  • They will have experience in building strategic partnerships, networks, coalitions, and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners to support healthy communities work.
  • The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of a population-based approach and be able to work with competing priorities.
  • They will also have demonstrated advocacy skills and be able to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting.
Hours
  • This is a Temporary Part Time /50% FTE/ 35 Hours Bi-weekly position.
  • The starting date is ASAP to Dec/24 (approximate 4-month term).
