About the Opportunity

The Health Promoter plays a vital role in ensuring policies and programs are planned and implemented to improve population health and reduce health inequities. Working in collaboration with the Healthy Communities Team, this individual will take action and advocate for policy and system change to create supportive social, economic, and physical environments that protect and promote health.

The Health Promoter focuses on upstream determinants and applies comprehensive, evidence-informed strategies to address local population health needs. This includes working with community partners across multiple levels to promote health and prevent chronic disease and injury.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of population-based approaches and the core competencies for public health. They will also have the ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively in a multi-disciplinary setting, and demonstrate accountability and responsibility.

About You
  • Masters' degree in Public Health or Health Promotion and 1 year experience required, or Bachelor of Health Promotion and 3 years' experience required
  • Demonstrated understanding of a population-based approach
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, including team building, negotiation, conflict management
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary setting with a strong focus on citizen/community
  • Ability to use computer software programs, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook
  • Demonstrated accountability and responsibility
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and be self-directed
  • Demonstrated judgement and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation
  • Demonstrated commitment to health and safety
  • Exemplary work history as demonstrated in current and past employment
  • Travel will be required
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred
