The Mechanical Systems Specialist is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all mechanical systems, including steam, chilled water, compressed air, HVAC equipment, purified water, and gas supply.

This position requires a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) certification, as defined by the Nuclear Safety and Control Act. A Nuclear Energy Worker is a person who performs duties in circumstances that may result in a radiation dose greater than the prescribed limit for the general public.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement test procedures and maintenance programs for critical safety systems and control equipment to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Operate the Building Management System to retrieve information as required.
  • Maintain quality programs, systems, and procedures to ensure ISO/GMP compliance.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment and systems using up-to-date trade practices.
  • Monitor work activities to identify and implement improvements that provide better service, functions, or repair.
  • Adhere to all safety programs in place at Sotera Health.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed Grade 12 education.
  • Must be a certified Stationary Engineer.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of applicable work experience in building maintenance, manufacturing, or process industries.
  • Ontario Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certificate and other qualifications would be an asset.

Additional Requirements

  • Availability to work required shifts, overtime, and on-call.
  • Ability to lift up to 10kgs on a frequent basis.
  • Climbing ladders.
  • Wearing a respirator for potentially several hours at a time.
  • Working in proximity to asbestos on a rare basis, following strict work procedures and personal protective equipment.
  • Member of the Emergency Response team.

Training Required: Must complete all required training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker.
