Job Title: Senior Legal Counsel

Job Summary:

The Toronto District School Board is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to provide strategic legal advice and representation to the Board. As a key member of the Legal Services team, you will be responsible for providing expert legal guidance on a wide range of matters, including civil litigation, privacy, administrative law, and human rights law.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive and strategic legal advice to Board senior staff and departments
  • Advise and represent the Board in legal proceedings, mediation, and at various tribunals
  • Negotiate with internal and external parties, and review and draft contracts, agreements, briefs, and public statements
  • Develop legal resources and deliver training and professional development sessions
  • Provide leadership and contribute to department goals and initiatives to efficiently and effectively deliver legal services
  • Stay abreast of developments in relevant areas of law and practice

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Laws (or Juris Doctor)
  • Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
  • Minimum of four (4) years successful related experience
  • Firm understanding of tribunal and court rules of procedure
  • Knowledge of legislation governing education and school board operations is an asset

Special Requirements:

  • Requires travel to schools and TDSB sites, law offices, courts, and tribunals
  • Must be available to work extended hours (evenings/weekends) as required
