Geriatrician Clinical and Academic Position in a Renowned Research-Intensive Department

The University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine, renowned for its research-intensive department and commitment to academic excellence, is seeking an exceptional Geriatrician to join its team. Job OverviewThis is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of outstanding care and programs that are recognized internationally. As a Geriatrician, you will be part of a dynamic group of 10 full-time academic physicians within a progressive Department of Medicine. The Division of Geriatric Medicine is an integral partner of the Regional Geriatric Program of Eastern Ontario, managing a wide spectrum of services for older people within the region.
The Ottawa Hospital, a 1150-bed tertiary-care hospital, serves Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec at four inpatient sites and one ambulatory centre. With approximately 50,000 inpatient admissions, 160,000 emergency visits, and over one million outpatient visits annually, this institution provides unparalleled opportunities for clinical growth and research collaboration.
Salary and BenefitsWe offer a competitive salary derived from various sources, including clinical billings, salary support, and honorariums/stipends. Additionally, health and welfare benefits, including extended health, dental, and disability insurance, as well as life insurance, are provided to full-time physicians.
ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will perform clinical services, teach and supervise medical students and residents, and participate in medical research. Clinical activities will include an acute care inpatient Geriatric Medicine Unit, consultation teams at two campuses, and specialized ambulatory clinics. The position also offers opportunities for rural clinics, a regional Geriatric Emergency Management program, and Geriatric Assessment and Outreach teams.
An expanding variety of research activities is available, including clinical (dementia & driving, frailty and pre-op assessment, delirium management, mobility, optimal prescribing), health services delivery (collaborative specialty care such as TAVI, orthopedics, trauma), and medical education.
QualificationsTo be eligible for this position, you must be a specialist in Geriatric Medicine. The successful candidate must be eligible to be licensed to practice medicine in Ontario; be a member of, or be eligible to be a member of, the Canadian Medical Protective Association; and have, or be eligible for certification in Geriatric Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
