About the Opportunity

The Social Worker is responsible for clinical assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of prevention and early intervention programming for adolescents at-risk for or who have mild substance use and/or mental health problems. As part of a team, the Social Worker must be knowledgeable and utilize principles from harm reduction, population health, community development, health promotion, and prevention, and early intervention.

About You

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Social Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, be registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Work, and have at least two years of experience working with adolescents at-risk, community resources, harm reduction, and substance use. The candidate should also have experience with interviewing skills, suicide risk assessment, and group facilitation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical assessment and planning for adolescents at-risk for or who have mild substance use and/or mental health problems
  • Implementation and evaluation of prevention and early intervention programming
  • Utilization of principles from harm reduction, population health, community development, health promotion, and prevention, and early intervention
  • Collaboration with a team to provide a wide range of services in schools and communities, including screening, assessment, supportive counseling, referral, case navigation/management, early/brief intervention, outreach, and group programming
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work
  • Registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Work
  • At least two years of experience working with adolescents at-risk, community resources, harm reduction, and substance use
  • Experience with interviewing skills, suicide risk assessment, and group facilitation
  • Knowledge of harm reduction and adolescent substance use
  • Knowledge of mental health risks and problems for youth
  • Knowledge of adolescent development
  • Knowledge of patterns of youth substance use and mental health problems, client-related characteristics, and an understanding of the challenges faced by youth at-risk for substance use and/or mental health problems
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
