Job Summary

The Family Service and Guardianship team in Williams Lake supports families from several Indigenous communities and Nations. This team works collaboratively with Children and Youth Mental Health, Children and Youth with Support Needs, Resources, and Youth Probation to support vulnerable children, youth, and families in this service delivery area. The team is supported by an experienced administrative team, as well as Family Service and Intake Team Leaders. Collaboration with local Indigenous Child and Family Services agencies, provincial & federal government agencies and other community partners ensures child protection and family service is not being provided in a silo.

The Role
You will supervise a dedicated team of skilled professionals; assigning work, consulting and ensuring best practices and strength-based decisions are being made both individually and in collaboration with the other Team Leaders and Office Manager. You will empower your team and the clients you serve. You will be a part of the decision making and implementation of multidisciplinary programs and services, ensuring they comply with relevant legislation, regulations, and policies. Developing and maintaining relationships with Indigenous partners and communities is a priority and you will lead by example, engaging in community events, providing outreach and in person connections.

1. Preferred Credentials:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular full working level SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
  • A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • At least 2 years of job-specific work experience.
  • Experience supervising staff.
2. Expanded Credentials:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor's Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master's level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor's Degree.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience and at least 2 years of job-specific work experience OR At least 3 years of job-specific work experience.
  • Experience supervising staff.
Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular full working level SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • Immediately Eligible for C6 delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA).
  • Recent supervisor experience (gained within the last two years).
  • Experience in a Team Leader role leading a Child Protection Team.
  • Experience working in rural or remote locations.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
