Laboratory Instructor

Vancouver Community College is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Demonstrator Sciences to join our team. As a Laboratory Demonstrator Sciences, you will be responsible for providing technical and instructional support in the College Foundations Science laboratories.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct laboratory demonstrations and provide assistance to students.
- Prepare laboratory and field equipment and instructional support materials for class activities.
- Work with field samples and preserved dissection specimens, and prepare and maintain live cultures and specimens.
- Prepare, administer, invigilate, and mark both oral and written laboratory examinations and quizzes.
- Perform a wide variety of tasks relative to the operation and maintenance of laboratory apparatus and equipment.
- Maintain safe conditions in the lab and classroom, and work with hazardous materials in accordance with WHMIS requirements.
- Assist in the preparation, development, and writing of new laboratory activities, experiments, and assignments.
- Advises and directs student aides as required.
- Assists students and instructors in the use of computers in the classroom.
- Coordinates or participates in laboratory session scheduling.
- Bachelor of Science Degree and 4 years of experience as a science instructional assistant at a post-secondary institution or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
- Chemistry: Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
- Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Experience using software applications for classroom instruction and inventory purposes.
- Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and apparatus.
- Knowledge of WorkSafeBC WHMIS regulations.
- Ability to work variable hours.
