Laboratory Instructor in Sciences

This position is responsible for providing technical and instructional support in the College Foundations Science laboratories. The successful candidate will ensure that all laboratory apparatus, specimens, materials, and instructional aids are prepared and set up for scheduled laboratory periods.
Key Responsibilities
Conducts laboratory demonstrations, provides assistance to students, and helps supervise laboratory activities.
Prepares laboratory and field equipment and instructional support materials for class activities.
Works with field samples and preserved dissection specimens, prepares and maintains live cultures and specimens.
Prepares, administers, invigilates, and marks both oral and written laboratory examinations and quizzes.
Maintains safe conditions in the lab and classroom and works with hazardous materials in accordance with WHMIS requirements.
Maintains inventory records, monitors, orders, and receives equipment and supplies.
Assists in the preparation, development, and writing of new laboratory activities, experiments, and assignments.
Advises and directs student aides as required.
Assists students and instructors in the use of computers in the classroom.
Coordinates or participates in laboratory session scheduling.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree and 4 years of experience as a science instructional assistant at a post-secondary institution or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.
Chemistry: Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
Experience using software applications for classroom instruction and inventory purposes.
Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and apparatus.
Knowledge of WorkSafeBC WHMIS regulations.
Ability to work variable hours.
