About the Role

The Spiritual and Religious Care Chaplain position at Nova Scotia Health Authority is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients, families, and staff. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide spiritual care and support to individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Visit patients in their rooms or units to assess their emotional and spiritual needs;
  • Prioritize patient visits based on individual needs and circumstances;
  • Maintain regular contact with critical care areas, including ICU, CCU, ER, and NICU;
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and referrals from nurses, physicians, and other healthcare workers;
  • Offer prayer and spiritual support as requested by patients;
  • Advocate for patients when necessary and facilitate communication with local clergy and faith leaders;
  • Provide emotional and spiritual support during the dying process;
Family and Staff Support
  • Be available to family members of patients, providing emotional and spiritual support;
  • Support staff who may need emotional or spiritual guidance, recognizing the impact of stress on their well-being;
Administrative Tasks
  • Attend multi-disciplinary rounds, advisory committee meetings, chaplain's staff meetings, and case conferences;
  • Orient new clergy to registration procedures and facility operations;
About You

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A minimum of one Basic Unit in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) endorsed by the Canadian Association of Pastoral Practice and Education;
  • Affiliation and endorsement by a recognized faith group;
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, organizational skills, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • A commitment to ongoing education and professional development;
  • Competencies in multiple languages, with French being an asset;
Compensation and Benefits

This permanent part-time position offers a competitive hourly rate of $26.01-$35.52, with opportunities for advancement and professional growth. Additionally, you may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
