Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a vital member of the healthcare team at the Health Sciences Centre, providing high-quality patient care and support to our patients. As an LPN, you will work under the general supervision of the Manager Health Services to deliver professional practical nursing services to designated patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide independent nursing services to patients, including administering prescribed medical treatments and collaborating with the healthcare team.
  • Participate in the coordination of patient care and discharge, ensuring a smooth transition for patients and their families.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing care for individual patients or groups of patients.
  • Delegate care appropriately and monitor outcomes of delegated care, ensuring the highest level of patient satisfaction.
  • Respond to a variety of simultaneous demands, adapting quickly to changing situations and maintaining concentration in a demanding environment.
Requirements
  • Recent, related experience in the applicable clinical area may be required or preferred.
  • Graduate of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing Education program is required.
  • Certification in IV Therapy and IV Medication Administration is required.
  • Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM) is required.
  • CPR training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses and the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba Code of Ethics for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions, and values.
  • Ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or group of patients.
  • Ability to delegate care appropriately and monitor outcomes of delegated care.
Working Conditions
  • Modest to heavy physical effort required.
  • Rotating shifts and weekends may be required.
