Job Title: Automation Designer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Automation Designer to join our team at ATS Automation. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing automation solutions for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop automation solutions using AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Perform engineering calculations to determine the strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness, etc.
  • Produce concepts, working drawings, detail drawings, and bills of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies, or products
  • Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, etc.
  • Liaise with customers and in-house technical and engineering staff
  • Liaise with vendors for technical information and specifications
  • Communicate all requested design changes to the Project Lead or Team Lead
  • Responsible for communicating progress on tasks to the supervising designer
  • Formalize and update drawing documentation
  • Periodically supervise the mechanical design effort on a project level, delegating tasks to a team of people
  • Organize documentation, including quotes, project plan, correspondence, requisitions, drawings, schedules, etc. on projects you are supervising
  • Responsible for communicating time estimates and resource requirements on design tasks to the Team Lead or Project Lead
  • Review electrical requirements with respect to input and output devices with electrical designers
  • Review machine operations and machine sequences with programmers
  • Assist the fabricators, machinists, toolmakers, and electricians in the debug, integration, resolving problems, and completion of systems
  • Determine tools, fixtures, and equipment to be used in fabrication and assembly of mechanical components and complete assemblies
  • Select appropriate purchased components for mechanical assemblies and create requisitions with appropriate delivery dates
  • Examine project instructions and drawings to determine test specifications
  • Periodically oversee co-op students and Junior Designers on various projects

Qualifications:

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, mechanical engineering, or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years of mechanical design experience
