Senior Mechanical Designer

At Mediabistro, our Buildings practice is dedicated to creating meaningful and responsive places that propel communities forward. We're seeking a talented Senior Mechanical Designer to join our team in Winnipeg.
Your OpportunityAs a Senior Mechanical Designer, you'll work alongside a team of engineers and technologists on multiple projects for public and private sector clients. This is a great opportunity for a motivated individual who wants to challenge their abilities in a dynamic work environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead mechanical design efforts on projects, coordinating with other design disciplines and facilitating problem-solving.
- Prepare schematics, details, and sketches during conceptual and design development stages.
- Design building-related mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Conduct or review equipment selections, perform preliminary engineering calculations, and develop preliminary designs.
- Oversee production team in producing construction documents that meet codes, design standards, and project design intent.
- Mentor junior designers and ensure quality, consistency, and integrity of deliverables.
- Assist with construction administration tasks and perform thorough quality control of construction documents.
- Ability to work on large complex projects and as a contributing team member within a multi-discipline team.
- Ability to work independently and take general direction to complete tasks.
- Effective communication skills in written and spoken English.
- Solution-focused with sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
- Fundamental knowledge of mechanical building systems and ability to communicate ideas to others.
- Knowledge of National Building Codes, plumbing codes, fire codes, and energy codes.
- Familiarity with building construction documentation and design process.
- Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 10 years of working experience in the buildings industry.
- Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD is an asset.
Typical office environment with computer work and remaining sedentary for long periods. Field work may include exposure to the elements.
