Job Summary: We are seeking a highly organized and dynamic individual to function as an Assistant Head Nurse in our NICU unit at Alberta Health Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide frontline leadership and promote staff and family wellness and satisfaction.
  • Utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making to provide safe, quality patient care.
  • Lead charge nurse experience and advanced skills in assessment, critical thinking, problem solving, conflict resolution, and time management are preferred.
  • Assist with regional and provincial capacity calls and liaison with Discharge Coordinators for appropriate transfers and complex discharges.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement and risk management through patient advocacy and identify issues requiring follow-up by Unit Managers.

Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • At least 5 years level 2 and 3 NICU experience.
  • At least 3 years' experience functioning as a charge nurse in the NICU.
