About the Clinical Trial Agreements Office

The Clinical Trial Agreements (CTA) Office is a key department within Research Legal at the University Health Network. Its primary function is to facilitate the preparation and negotiation of legal agreements for research studies involving human participants. With a high volume of contracts to manage, the CTA Office plays a crucial role in ensuring that appropriate agreements are in place to govern relationships between UHN and external parties, while also mitigating risk to the organization and its research participants.

Position Summary

The Research Agreement Specialist is responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating clinical trial agreements, research contracts, and other related agreements. This role requires strong analytical and communication skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Duties

  • Drafting and reviewing clinical trial agreements, research contracts, and other related agreements
  • Negotiating agreements with external parties, including pharmaceutical and medical device companies, government agencies, and research institutions
  • Developing agreement strategies and assessing study submissions to determine complexity and requirements
  • Engaging with internal stakeholders, including the Research Ethics Board and Research Financial Services
  • Managing institutional risk and providing effective service and support to researchers

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in law, business, or science
  • At least three years of experience in a related field, with a minimum of one year of experience in agreement preparation and negotiation
  • Strong knowledge of contract clauses, legal concepts, and risk assessment principles
  • Ability to work in a Microsoft Office environment and proficiency in Adobe Sign
