About the Role

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a highly skilled Corporate Legal Counsel to join its dynamic legal team. In this role, you will provide legal advice to the leadership and staff of CAMH, with a focus on supporting the organization's research enterprise.

You will report to CAMH's VP, Legal Services and Chief, Legal and Risk Officer, and work closely with the research legal team to deliver exceptional legal services in areas including commercial contracts, regulatory law matters, corporate policies, research initiatives, and general research-related governance matters.

As a solutions-oriented lawyer, you will focus on proactively identifying risk and advancing CAMH's research strategies. You will develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, external peer hospital legal counsel, and external legal counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice to CAMH's leadership and staff on research-related matters;
  • Collaborate with the research legal team to deliver high-quality legal services;
  • Assist in developing and implementing structures and processes to support the research legal team;
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant laws and regulations affecting CAMH's research activities.

Requirements

  • Law degree (LLB or JD) required and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
  • 3-5 years of post-call experience in private practice, in-house, or a combination thereof;
  • Experience in general corporate/commercial, intellectual property, and privacy law, as well as contract negotiation;
  • Strong preference for experience working in the hospital/healthcare or clinical research setting;
  • Experience with research-related agreements, including clinical trial agreements, collaboration agreements, licensing agreements, and confidentiality agreements.

What We Offer

CAMH offers a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $160,000 per year, commensurate with experience, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.
