Role Overview
The Director, Strategic Relations and Communications will provide senior-level leadership to the organization on communications, government, and stakeholder relations plans that advance CMHO's strategic objectives and reputation.
This role requires the ability to represent CMHO in various capacities, enabling CMHO to represent its members' interests effectively and thoughtfully.
The successful candidate will collaborate with members, government, youth, and families, as well as system partners, to deliver on goals to improve access, quality, and equity in child and youth mental health.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a Stakeholder Relations and Communications Plan, including strategies and tactics on relevant public policy, legislative, and member issues.
- Communicate the value of members and the needs of infants, children, youth, and their families to government, the public, and broader system partners.
- Promote CMHO positions with senior government officials and other external audiences in person and in writing to support and improve the child and youth mental health system.
- Oversee strategic communications activities, including digital and social media, media relations, and member communications.
- Work closely with CMHO members to identify, understand, and manage government-related issues and opportunities in alignment with strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with the CMHO leadership team to plan correspondence, presentations, and formal policy submissions to government officials.
- Support and enable raising youth and family voice and advancing youth and family partnerships in CMHO's advocacy work.
- Support CMHO's commitments to advance equity, anti-racism, and anti-oppression, with a focus on intersections with communications, government relations, and stakeholder relations work.
- Contribute to developing strategies and supporting CMHO teams and programs' communications, government relations, and stakeholder relations activities.
- Identify, develop, and strengthen relationships with key decision-makers and influencers in and outside of government.
- Assess and address critical incidents and opportunities impacting members as they arise.
- Take on special projects as requested.
About You
- You have a proven track record in a provincial government and/or corporate government relations environment.
- You possess an in-depth understanding of Ontario's government and political decision-making systems, including roles of Members of Provincial Parliament, Cabinet Ministers, and the Public Service.
- You can foster and leverage relationships with partners across government, healthcare, and children's services.
- You have experience presenting complex issues and opportunities to senior-level government officials and system partners.
- You excel at issue management, project management, communications, and interpersonal skills.
- You are skilled at prioritizing and working under tight deadlines on multiple initiatives.
- You have experience in strategic relationship building and stakeholder engagement.
- You possess knowledge of Ontario's mental health system/children's social services system (preferable).
- You have experience working with people with lived experience (an asset).
- You hold a university degree in a related field.
- You have a minimum of 7 years of related experience.
- You have excellent writing, public speaking, and presentation skills.
Benefits and Compensation
This is a full-time position with benefits. The salary range is $113,000 - $120,000 per annum. The organization primarily operates remotely and will likely shift back to in-person work with flexible work-from-home policies.
