Specifications Writer

Adamson and AAI is seeking a skilled Specifications Writer to prepare project manuals for complex architectural projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop technical documents (specifications and contract documents) for incorporation into Project Manuals for various building project types.
  • Interpret architectural, engineering, and contract documents to assist the Project Manager in locating project-specific information.
  • Oversee the preparation of Project Manuals with the Project team.
  • Provide quality control review of contract documents prepared by internal and external sources.
  • Train junior and intermediate-level specification writers.
  • Educate staff on specifications, keynoting, technical material information, and Project Manuals.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Team Leads, Architects, Engineers, and Designers.
  • Meet deadlines and assist in the development of office master specifications.
  • Coordinate the scheduling and production of Project Manuals with teams.
  • Collaborate with project teams, specification team members, document control, and IT staff.
  • Conduct technical research on new building technology methods and materials.
  • Act as a resource for technical questions, detail review, submittal review, and material selections.
  • Maintain technical documents, codes, standards, and technical literature.
  • Maintain information databases.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years in the architectural profession with 5+ years of North America experience.
  • 5+ years of dedicated specification writing for various building types.
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Diploma in Architectural Technology.
  • Good communication and organization skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Registered Specification Writer (RSW) or Certified Specification Practitioner (CSP).
  • Active member of Construction Specifications Canada (CSC).
  • Certified Construction Specifier (CCS).
  • Active member of Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
  • LEED AP.

Skills:

  • Mandatory: Advanced level Microsoft Office.
  • Autocad/Revit an asset.
