About Nee Tahi Buhn First Nation
Nee Tahi Buhn First Nation is a vibrant community located at Francois Lake, British Columbia. We have 4 reserves within 10 km of the south shore of Francois Lake and are home to an ancient culture and history. Our community is comprised of approximately 140 members who are committed to preserving and promoting our traditional language, culture, and way of life.
We strive to create a positive environment where members can learn, grow, and thrive. Our community places great importance on preserving our culture and traditions through language revitalization programs and local sustainable social enterprise projects. Through these initiatives, we continue to honor our past while moving towards a brighter future.
Our leadership team is dedicated to making decisions that benefit our community while ensuring the preservation of our cherished traditions and culture for future generations. They consist of a Chief, two Councillors, and a Deputy Chief, all elected by our community to serve four-year terms.
Overview of the Role
This pivotal leadership role will lead the Nee Tahi Buhn Indian Band Administration with a commitment to implementing the vision and goals of the Band. The General Manager will embody and model the values and guiding principles of the community, overseeing financial operations, cultivating a positive work culture, supervising Band employees, and ensuring the successful implementation of community programs and services.
The successful candidate will foster communication and connections within the community, contributing to the overall well-being and development of the Nee Tahi Buhn community. They will be responsible for coordinating, reporting, and administering executive and administrative policies, ensuring the effective delivery of all Band programs and services to the community.
Main Responsibilities
- Oversee and administer Nee Tahi Buhn Indian Band programs and services, ensuring compliance with Council directives, policies, laws, and by-laws in daily operations.
- Attend, provide support, and often facilitate General Band Meetings, Special Council Meetings, and Committee Meetings.
- Serve as a non-voting Administrator on Council Committees, attending meetings as required or directed by Council.
- Manage financial operations, budgets, and reports with the Chief Financial Officer, ensuring all expenditures meet budgetary restrictions and requirements.
- Supervise, lead, mentor, and coach 12+ Band employees, ensuring effective employee work plans and providing support, training, and development for all.
- Oversee Band programs and services delivery, including public works, housing, social work, education, and training.
- Function as the liaison and public relations coordinator for administrative matters, communicating with community members, other First Nations, provincial and federal governments, municipalities, and other relevant agencies.
- Coordinate community development activities.
- Lead and evaluate staff performance as needed.
- Resolve project-related and high-level issues.
- Coordinate and recommend legal and professional resources to represent the Band in actions as directed by Council.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration OR a Diploma in Business or Public Administration with three years experience OR 5 years of administration and management experience combined.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to create a strong, cohesive team.
- Experience implementing strategic and operation plans.
- Strong financial management skills including the audit process.
- Advanced communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and listen.
- Proven mediation and conflict resolution skills.
- Proven ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with tact and discretion.
- Experience working with First Nations and understanding of First Nations health, social, and information management concerns.
- Highly initiative-taking, able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong decision-making skills, objectivity, diplomacy, and fairness, and excellent problem-solving and sound judgment abilities.
- Experience creating a safe workplace culture where equity, diversity, and inclusion are embraced and practiced.
- Solid computer software skills, including Microsoft Office, Adagio, Paydirt, and Bamboo H.R., are assets.
- Valid BC Driver's License.
Benefits and Perks
The successful candidate will enjoy a salary of $90,000.00 per annum. Additional benefits include:
