Position Overview

Role Summary

What is the opportunity?

The primary objective of this role is to assist in the formulation and execution of RBC's methodologies for assessing, controlling, and tracking ESG risks. The Senior Manager will be an integral part of the ESG Risk Engagement & Oversight Team within the Enterprise Risk division.

This is a pioneering and developing area, offering the chance to contribute to the creation of innovative solutions for intricate challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director of ESG Risk Engagement & Oversight on various internal second line of defense initiatives (e.g., sustainable finance, transition plan evaluations, new metric formulation, etc.)
  • Conduct new research to pinpoint and manage emerging ESG risk areas
  • Provide expertise in climate, energy transition, and decarbonization while evaluating credit transactions and advising business units
  • Assist with the team's data analysis and visualization requirements
  • Contribute to the preparation of internal management reports and presentations for senior leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Support the creation and review of external disclosures (e.g., Annual Report, ESG Report, shareholder inquiries, rating agency data requests, etc.) ensuring accuracy, consistency, completeness, and timeliness
  • Facilitate the development and integration of a process to incorporate environmental, climate, and social risks into the existing risk management framework, particularly in relation to understanding the impact of these risks on credit risk.

Qualifications for Success

Essential Requirements

  • A strong interest in ESG Risk and climate change
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate while managing multiple tasks and complex topics
  • Capability to research, analyze, and distill large volumes of information into actionable insights
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong commitment to quality and precision with meticulous attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a sustainability-related field
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization techniques
  • Familiarity with climate risk and target-setting guidelines from organizations such as PCAF, NZBA, TCFD, ISSB, and OSFI (B-15)
  • Experience or knowledge in decarbonizing challenging sectors (e.g., agriculture, aluminum, cement, coal, commercial and residential real estate, iron and steel, oil and gas, power generation, and transportation)
  • Understanding of banking processes and procedures, especially regarding credit assessment, adjudication, and monitoring, along with familiarity in policy and framework development
  • Experience collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders and engaging with senior executives
