Occupational Health and Safety Specialist

FortisBC, the largest energy provider in the province with over 100 years of experience, is seeking a highly skilled Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to join their team.
With a diverse workforce of over 2,600 employees, FortisBC offers a safe and inclusive work environment where each individual can grow and develop. This role plays a crucial part in implementing and adhering to health and safety standards, policies, programs, and procedures across the organization.
Job Responsibilities:- Support operations in maintaining compliance with key health and safety principles, standards, policies, programs, and procedures through effective implementation and adherence.
- Provide primary level III first aid coverage for designated areas, ensuring the well-being of employees and contractors.
- Fulfill 'hole-watch' responsibilities to support compliance with confined space work practices, guaranteeing a safe working environment.
- Deliver comprehensive generation worksite safety orientations for employees and contractors, promoting a culture of safety awareness.
- Audit and maintain critical tool inventory to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, safeguarding assets and minimizing risks.
- Participate in Generation safe work practice committees, such as Lockout and Compliance, driving continuous improvement and adherence to best practices.
- Perform duties of a lower classification as required, demonstrating adaptability and a commitment to excellence.
- Grade 12 diploma
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- Occupational Level III First Aid Certification
- Completion of a one-year occupational health and safety (OHS) college or university certificate or diploma program
- Five years' related work experience in Occupational Health and Safety
- Knowledge of Hydro Electric Generation environments
- Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of internal and external safety standards, policies, and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships
This position requires participation in job hazard analysis development with internal stakeholders, fostering a proactive approach to risk management.
