Support Professional for Students with Autism

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Support Professional to join our team at School District #41 (Burnaby). As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in and out of the classroom.
About the Role
The successful candidate will assist students with ASD in developing individualized education plans, provide personal and physical assistance as needed, and work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to ensure a supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, implementation, and review of individual education plans (IEP), positive behavior support plan, and safely plan.
- Reinforce educational program by tutoring, adapting, or modifying classroom materials to meet the specialized needs of students with ASD.
- Provide personal care assistance, such as toileting, feeding, diapering, and dressing.
- Provide physical assistance, such as wheelchair maneuvering, positioning, lifting, and transferring.
- Collect assessment data and utilize data to document progress and for decision making regarding the goals and objectives in the student's IEP.
- Prepare written reports, communication logs, and classroom materials.
Requirements
- Successful completion of a Certificate/Diploma with focus on empirically supported approaches to supporting students with ASD or an equivalent certification plus 1,000 hours of home team/Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) training and work experience documented by a Professional Consultant.
- One (1) year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
- Thorough knowledge of ASD and characteristics of effective interventions such as ABA.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students with ASD.
- Working knowledge of adaptive/assistive technology related to work performed, including computers, wheelchairs, and medical equipment.
- Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) would be an asset.
Compensation
