The Individual Insurance and Wealth business unit at Sun Life Financial represents a significant portion of the company's global revenue and a substantial share of Canadian earnings. As a top provider of life, health, and wealth products in the Canadian marketplace, we are seeking a highly skilled professional to join our team as a Director of Advanced Planning and Strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver effective advanced tax, legal, estate, and financial planning expertise and advice to the sales and advisor teams, ensuring they have the necessary tools and knowledge to drive sales and utilization of Sun Life's solutions.

  • Participate in joint field work with advisors and clients, identifying potential tax planning opportunities related to estate planning, wealth planning, and business succession and continuation planning.

  • Actively participate in and resolve cases identified and advanced from advisors, applying expertise in devising sound client solutions and working directly with advisors as needed.

  • Build advisor capability through seminars and workshops on advanced financial planning topics, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide exceptional client service.

  • Deliver and promote sales tools that support Sun Life's products, proprietary financial planning concepts, and specialty needs analyses, including legal and compliance issues.

  • Deliver client seminars and associated materials, providing education and support to clients and advisors alike.

  • Stay current through research and participation in industry profile-building activities, ensuring the team has access to the latest knowledge and best practices.

  • Participate as an active member of the Financial Planning Centre of Expertise, sharing knowledge and insight with others and contributing to the ongoing development of effective processes and tools.

  • Drive large and complex insurance case business, working closely with Insurance Sales Directors and Business Growth teams to achieve business objectives.

  • Contribute to the development of technical content and education in Sun Life, sharing knowledge and expertise with other Business Growth departments, Insurance Distribution, and the Insurance Tax Solutions team.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of personal and corporate financial planning, including taxation, compensation arrangements, charitable wills and trusts, and the dynamics of business and succession planning.

  • Excellent understanding of industry trends and their implications on achieving business objectives.

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and develop effective solutions.

  • Strong communication skills, including facilitation, training, influencing, and presentation.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and concepts.

  • CPA, LL.B, M. Tax, or FCIA designation, with CFP, CLU, FEA, or TEP being an asset.

  • University degree or equivalent business experience, with a minimum of 5 years of financial services experience.
