About the Role
CNIB Deafblind Community Services is seeking a skilled and compassionate Sighted Guide and Communication Specialist to join our team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one support and communication services to individuals who are Deafblind in their homes and communities.
- Facilitate access to information and facilitate communication between individuals and their environments.
- Collaborate with individuals to determine their level of support and empower them to participate in their communities.
- Provide sighted guide and environmental information to support individuals in their daily lives.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of Deafblindness, Deaf/Deafblind culture, and common associated health-related concerns.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated and flexible with the ability to multi-task.
- Able to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in a human services field or related experience.
- Experience working with individuals who are Deafblind or willingness to learn and practice related alternate formats of communication.
- Experience working with diverse client populations and ability to build rapport with stakeholders.
