About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Data Protection Specialist, Legal Counsel to join our team at KPMG Canada. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic and high-caliber in-house legal team in a thriving and progressive international organization.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Perform comprehensive privacy impact assessments for new technologies, applications, and service lines to ensure compliance with Canadian federal and provincial privacy laws and regulations, as well as CASL and GDPR.
  2. Remediate and document data breaches, ensuring timely and effective response to minimize risk and reputational damage.
  3. Negotiate the privacy and data protection components of client and supplier contracts to protect our organization's interests and maintain compliance.
  4. Prepare and submit responses to access to information consultations, demonstrating our commitment to transparency and accountability.
  5. Provide ongoing guidance and support to KPMG Canada's client-facing business units and internal departments on matters related to privacy and data protection, fostering a culture of compliance and risk management.
  6. Collaborate with external counsel as required to ensure expert advice and support in complex privacy and data protection matters.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have 2-5 years' experience in advising on privacy and data protection matters, preferably through a combination of law firm and in-house experience. You will be knowledgeable in all Canadian federal and provincial privacy laws and regulations, as well as CASL and GDPR. A degree in law and licensure to practice law in Canada are also essential. Certification as a privacy specialist is desirable, but not mandatory.
