Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Category Procurement Specialist to join our team at Medisca. As a key member of our procurement team, you will be responsible for executing the purchasing category strategy for assigned products, providing support to all locations, and managing relationships with key suppliers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze inventory and CMO operations to develop, manage, and assess purchasing and inventory performance through key performance indicators (KPIs), metrics, and data-driven insights.
  • Analyze the global supplier landscape for assigned product portfolios and perform procurement reporting and analysis of supplier information to identify potential improvement opportunities.
  • Use the material requirements planning (MRP) system to analyze inventory movements, turns, and costs, and place purchase orders (POs) immediately upon receipt of MRP suggestions.
  • Deliver against key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success based on service level, inventory turns, and shrink.
  • Analyze and review qualified Contract Manufacturers Organizations (CMOs) and suppliers, and attend meetings to discuss planning and production of Medisca products.
  • Coordinate with Research and Development (R&D) for initiating tech transfer documentation to CMOs for new development products.
  • Act as a liaison with CMO teams regarding timelines, product status, issues, and payments.
  • Collaborate and communicate with key departments such as R&D, Quality Assurance (QA), Sales, and Production to streamline operations.
  • Meet monthly with management and the Demand Planning team to discuss open-to-buy (OTB) and planning horizon.
Product Category Negotiation and Purchasing
  • Source reliable suppliers and vendors that have required certifications, accreditations, and insurance, along with a steady stream of supply that fits within budget restraints.
  • Administer the supplier selection and evaluation process and keep supplier information up to date.
  • Build and manage supplier relationships while managing performance, conduct routine supplier business reviews, qualify, and audit suppliers to ensure quality and compliance with rigorous safety standards.
  • Negotiate competitive pricing, discounts, and contracts while achieving the highest standards of quality and service while balancing cost control and mitigating vendor-related risks.
  • Define and establish agreements with suppliers, provide and maintain standard terms in purchase contracts/terms and conditions in line with company directives and guidelines.
  • Issue and maintain supplier policies; review existing contracts with suppliers to ensure ongoing feasibility.
  • Source for new or existing products and work closely with the quality department for qualification.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure product availability, delivery schedules, and resolve any potential supplier shortages.
  • Handle rejected orders and negotiate returns with the supplier.
  • Identify and communicate areas for improvement externally with vendors and internally within the department.
Order Expedition
  • Ensure all orders are delivered according to PO specifications, and released for sale according to MRP schedule.
  • Responsible to ensure all delivery dates are accurate in the ERP system.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience working in purchasing or procurement.
  • Ability to build relationships with Contract Manufacturers Organizations (CMOs).
  • Experience working in the pharmaceutical industry is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel) required.
  • Experience working with an ERP (Syspro) is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills; fluent French and English (oral & written) required.
  • Strong listening skills, very customer-focused, and professional.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to apply good judgment, ethical practice, and decision-making.
  • Able to understand production batches, capabilities, and equipment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner.
