About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Procurement Specialist to join our team at Canadian National Railway. As a key member of our Procurement and Supply Management department, you will play a critical role in supporting our Category Fuel and Energy team by delivering value through category management sourcing strategies, handling supplier accounts and performance, and supporting our decarbonization roadmap.

Main Responsibilities
  • Procurement Management
    • Integrate sustainable procurement and supplier risk management strategies within our day-to-day procurement processes to uphold our commitment to safety and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather business requirements for development and execution of category management sourcing (RFx) strategies, in addition to evaluating proposals, analyzing total cost of ownership (TCO), and formalizing a final recommendation.
    • Prepare and conduct direct negotiations with existing or new potential suppliers.
    • Onboard new suppliers and handle outline agreements and price formulas within Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP) in accordance with supplier contracts to enable procure-to-pay process.
    • Oversee supplier contracts and relationships such as monitoring supplier performance, contractual obligations, invoice and payment management, as well as identifying continuous improvement opportunities.
    • Draft new, or amend, existing supplier contracts in collaboration with internal stakeholders to ensure our business requirements are met.
    • Ensure continuous operations and maintain fuel supply resiliency across our CN network.
    • Ensure adherence to our Procurement Policy throughout all stages of the procurement process.
    • Execute internal approval processes and supporting documentation.
    • Participate and support department-wide projects.
  • Fuel Reporting
    • Monitor and track monthly supply of biofuel volume in collaboration with suppliers to support our decarbonization and sustainability roadmap.
    • Prepare costing reports enabling internal stakeholders to make important decisions based on financial and operational facts and trends.
    • Participate in periodic audits throughout the year and provide supporting documentation.
    • Ensure reporting deadlines are adhered to including scheduled, ad-hoc, internal and external reporting.
    • Conduct routine audits on fuel deliveries for volume, pricing, and extra charges (i.e. driver wait time).
  • Working Conditions
    • The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular work week from Monday to Friday.
    • The role is eligible to participate in our hybrid work model, working from the office every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and working from home every Wednesday and Friday.
    • The role requires minimal travel (5%) across North America.
    • The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidents.
Requirements
  • Experience
    • Between 1 to 2 years of experience in an Analyst or similar role.
    • Experience in Data Analytics.
    • Experience in Railroad Operations.
    • Experience in Oil, Gas and Petroleum market.
    • Experience with SAP Ariba or similar procurement systems.
  • Education/Certification/Designation
    • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Supply Chain and Logistics, or equivalent.
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
    • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA).

    • Knowledge of market drivers, trends, and changes to governmental policies that may impact our fuel supply and logistics strategy.
    • Knowledge of the rail transportation or logistics industry.
