Chief Financial Officer

Nova Construction is a leading road building industry player based in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. With over 500 miles of highway built, upgraded, or paved in Newfoundland, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia for provincial and federal governments, Nova Construction provides a wide range of commercial and residential services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting: Directly involved in the preparation, review, and presentation of financial statements in accordance with regulatory requirements and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Responsible for developing financial strategies, forecasts, and budgets to guide the company's operations, analyzing financial data to provide actionable insights for decision-making and long-term planning.
  • Tax Planning, Compliance, and Preparation: Oversee and actively participate in the preparation and filing of corporate tax returns, ensuring accuracy and adherence to tax laws and regulations in all jurisdictions.
  • Risk Management: Identify and assess financial risks facing the company, such as market, credit, and operational risks, developing and implementing strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Treasury Management: Manage the company's cash flow and liquidity, ensuring adequate funds are available for operating expenses and capital expenditures.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with other senior leaders to develop and execute the company's strategic initiatives, expansion plans, and investment opportunities.
  • Corporate Governance: Ensure compliance with corporate governance principles and best practices, including oversight of internal controls, risk management processes, and ethical standards.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Provide leadership and guidance to the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or related roles, with at least 5-7 years in senior management and leadership positions.
  • Skills: Extensive experience in financial reporting, analysis, and understanding of GAAP and regulatory compliance, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with other senior leaders.
  • Preferred Qualifications: CPA designation and/or MBA.
