About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Clinical Therapist to join our team at the Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will be responsible for delivering time-limited, evidence-based psycho-social assessments and treatments to children and youth with Tier-3 mental disorders and Substance Use Disorders.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's Degree in a clinical health-related discipline and current registration with a relevant provincial regulatory body. You will have a minimum of two years' related experience, including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention, and discharge planning.

You will be expected to act in a professional and ethical manner, following all recognized codes of ethics, standards, legislation, and guidelines relevant to clinical practice and profession. You will convey respect and a solid understanding of subtle and complex diversity and inclusion issues as they relate to specific groups.

About You
  • You will have a Master's Degree in a clinical health-related discipline (Masters in Social Work, Psychology, Masters in Counseling, Masters in Nursing, or Masters in Occupational Therapy)
  • You will have current registration with a relevant provincial regulatory body or be eligible
  • You will have a minimum of two years' related experience, including assessment and planning, treatment and intervention, and discharge planning
  • You will have in-depth and critical understanding of the principles of harm reduction, the dynamics of addiction, and evidence-based interventions for the treatment of addiction
  • You will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of standard criteria used (DSM-5) for the classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders
  • You will have demonstrated knowledge and skills in individual/group cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psycho-educational groups
  • You will have demonstrated knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, suicide, and violence risk assessment/intervention
  • You will have demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently with limited supervision, and participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • You will have basic competencies in relation to identifying and treating concurrent mental health and substance use disorders
  • You will have experience in interviewing, counseling, and teaching health concepts to individuals, families, and groups
  • You will have demonstrated knowledge and skills in collaborating with families in relation to sharing information and implementing family-sensitive services that involve families in the care and recovery of people living with mental illness and addiction
  • Competencies in other languages are an asset, French preferred
Hours
  • This is a permanent full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly
