About the Opportunity

The Occupational Therapist plays a vital role in the Rehabilitation Services team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a key member of the healthcare team, the Occupational Therapist works collaboratively with clients, caregivers, and families to facilitate, restore, and maintain optimal levels of function in areas such as self-care, productivity, and leisure.

The Occupational Therapist provides consultation, assessment, treatment, evaluation, and follow-up services while working within the hospital, client's home, and community settings. They establish individualized treatment plans and goals, manage a busy caseload, and use clinical judgment and decision-making skills to prioritize issues on a daily basis.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing education and support to clients, families, and caregivers
  • Contributing to the clinical education of occupational therapy students and related health disciplines
  • Supervising occupational therapy assistants
  • Adhering to Nova Scotia Health Authority policies and procedures, as well as professional standards of the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia

The successful applicant may be required to provide services across the Rehabilitation Services portfolio.

About You

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Occupational Therapist to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree or entry-level master's program in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university
  • Licensure with the provincial regulatory body, the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia, is mandatory
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate education programs and interact positively with patients/clients, families, other healthcare providers, and staff
  • A commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness, and organizational health
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, while effectively planning, organizing, and supervising
  • The ability to be flexible and adjust to the changing needs of the service and the program/facility
  • The ability to work alone or with team members in all service settings
  • Competencies in other languages are an asset, with French being preferred
Hours
  • Permanent Full-time / % FTE / 75 Hours Bi-weekly
  • Shiftwork / Call / Rotation / etc
Compensation and Incentives

The successful candidate will receive a competitive hourly rate of $42.89. Additionally, they may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
