Job Description

This position provides medical leadership and expertise within the Public Health Response team. The specialist works closely with the Senior Scientist and Senior Practice Leader of Respiratory Viral Surveillance, reporting directly to the Medical Director, Public Health Response.

  • Provides epidemiologic expertise and consultation on communicable disease management, outbreak investigation, and population-based measures to prevent and control diseases.
  • Monitors, interprets, and recommends actions based on surveillance data for selected communicable diseases.
  • Develops and implements studies, interprets results, and reports findings for publication.
  • Liaises with local, provincial, national, and international jurisdictions on outbreak investigations and disease control.
  • Participates in public health research, including emerging issues and evaluative studies.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • A Doctor of Medicine (MD) from a recognized university.
  • Postgraduate degree in Epidemiology or Public Health.
  • Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Community Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics with Infectious Disease training.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in word processing, statistical, and analytical software.
  • Proficiency in clinical medicine and communication skills, including public speaking and relations.
  • Ability to supervise staff and work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
Estimated Salary

$145,000 - $170,000 per annum, depending on experience.
