Job Summary

The Public Health Physician - Medical Leadership role is a critical position within the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) that requires a medical professional with expertise in epidemiology and communicable disease control. As a key member of the Public Health Response team, the successful candidate will provide medical leadership and work closely with the Senior Scientist and Senior Practice Leader of Respiratory Viral Surveillance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide medical expertise and leadership for provincial respiratory surveillance, including influenza, RSV, and COVID-19.
  • Support outbreak investigation and management, program and policy analysis, and provide expert consultation services to address gaps in knowledge relating to communicable diseases.
  • Collaborate with communities, Regional Health Authorities, First Nations Health Authority, Métis Nation BC, Office of the Provincial Health Officer, Ministry of Health, and other provincial ministries and partners to identify and address public health issues.
  • Develop and implement communicable disease control policies and programs, and provide medical consultation and background rationale for program and policy recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) from a recognized university.
  • Postgraduate degree in Epidemiology or Public Health.
  • Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Community Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics with Infectious Disease training.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
