Job Summary

The BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS seeks a highly skilled and motivated Senior Healthcare Data Specialist to join our dynamic team. This is a 1-year full-time position with a possibility of extension, offering a salary range of $62,239 - $75,533.

About the Role

This role involves collaborating with Scientists, Research Coordinators, and Statisticians on various research projects, focusing on ongoing analysis of healthcare information from diverse sources. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing information products, designing and building programming projects, and providing advice and guidance on data quality and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions for data analysis and presentation
  • Design, build, and document programming projects using SAS, Oracle SQL, and Excel to manage and present complex data
  • Provide expert advice on data quality, structure, and analysis to research teams
  • Develop datasets, data summaries, and documentation from multiple data sources
  • Present data analysis findings to team members and contribute to product development through research and innovation
  • Maintain confidentiality in dealing with sensitive matters related to healthcare data

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Medical Health Information, or a relevant field; or equivalent qualifications
  • Undergraduate or graduate coursework in statistics, data analysis, research methods (e.g., epidemiology), and Oracle programming
  • Demonstrated experience working with analytical software, particularly SAS and Oracle SQL, as well as advanced Excel features and techniques
  • Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Familiarity with various types and sources of healthcare information, including financial and patient-level data files

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, and/or health sciences research an asset
  • An understanding of epidemiologic research study design, bias, and other concepts beneficial
