About the Role

We are seeking an experienced lawyer with 5+ years of practice in real estate development and commercial transactions to join our team in Ottawa.

  • Lead all aspects of commercial and residential real estate: land acquisition, development, financing, leasing, structuring, and sale processes;
  • Perform due diligence, risk assessments, and develop strategies for real estate deals;
  • Draft and negotiate various real estate documents – sales, development, joint ventures, easements, leases, and financing;
  • Help resolve legal disputes in real estate development projects – contract disputes, zoning appeals, environmental compliance matters, and construction defects;

You will stay updated on laws and trends, advising clients on impacts and strategic opportunities, and collaborate to deliver integrated legal services to clients and support the overall success of the firm.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • 5+ years practicing real estate law, with a focus on real estate development and commercial transactions;
  • Experience taking raw land through the development approval process to obtain subdivision/site plan/development approval and strata consent;
  • Knowledgeable of municipal law: land use planning, expropriation, municipal property tax assessment and municipal finance;
  • Experience in land purchases and sales, financing and joint venture structures, including cost-sharing arrangements, volume sales of residential lots, raw land development and infill redevelopment;

A proven record managing real estate development projects from inception to completion is essential.

Estimated Salary: $105,000 - $130,000 based on location and industry standards.
