About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Superintendent to join our team at PCL Constructors Canada Inc. in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure the successful implementation of PCL's safety program, integrating safety protocols into all site plans and procedures.
- Supervise and direct project teams, including direct and indirect reports, to ensure high-quality work and adherence to project timelines.
- Effectively communicate with site personnel, including own forces and trades, to ensure performance, productivity, quality, and safety requirements are met.
- Proactively manage potential problems, work interferences, and schedule conflicts, and develop recovery plans to mitigate risks.
- Liaise with field engineers, estimators, and subcontractors to ensure construction complies with drawings and specifications.
- Communicate with clients, site contractors, union representatives, and site and office personnel to ensure seamless project execution.
- Develop and implement project execution plans and resource-loaded three-week lookahead schedules to drive project success.
- Oversee and manage project plans and schedules, ensuring compliance with budget and quality requirements.
- Review and understand contracts and subcontracts, identifying and mitigating risks to ensure financial targets are met.
- Understand project labor agreements and build relationships with union and labor representatives.
Requirements
- Journeyman certificate or undergraduate degree in a related discipline, with NCSO designation required and Gold Seal program enrollment preferred.
- 15 years of progressive field supervision experience, with a proven track record of successfully supervising construction workforces.
- In-depth knowledge of construction industry operations, including building materials, construction specifications, and methods and procedures.
- Understanding of project scope and ability to apply intermediate-complex engineering principles to construction plans and schedules.
- Proficient understanding of scheduling software and ability to coordinate multiple scopes of a construction project.
- Thorough understanding of productivity rates, Labor Cost Reports, and contract language, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks and leverage opportunities.
- Understanding of collective agreement and jurisdiction assignment for multi-trade sites.
- In-depth knowledge of safety and environmental principles and procedures, with the ability to lead and run effective site meetings.
- Demonstrated conflict-resolution skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional judgment.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and internal operational systems.
