Strategic Advancement Officer for Optometry Leadership

The University of Waterloo seeks a highly skilled Strategic Advancement Officer to join the School of Optometry & Vision Science as a key member of the Faculty of Science.

This role will work closely with the Associate Director (AD), Advancement, School of Optometry & Vision Science, to develop and implement innovative strategies for alumni engagement and fundraising, with a focus on the advancement and fundraising goals of the School.

Key Responsibilities:

- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the School's activities, priorities, and needs in both teaching and research, as well as a thorough knowledge of priority fundraising projects.

- Create and implement a strategic plan to enhance alumni and external stakeholder engagement, aligning with major gift fundraising goals and evaluating tactics as required.

- Support industry engagement through sponsorship programs for Continuing Professional Development and student initiatives.

- Identify, recruit, manage, and steward volunteers to support the School's goals and initiatives, including fundraising projects.

Development (Fundraising) Responsibilities:

- Develop personal annual fundraising targets and goals, including prospect pool size, number of meetings, and dollars raised.

- Develop, implement, and evaluate fundraising strategies for corporate, foundation, individual, and alumni sectors, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.

- Maintain a portfolio of prospects assessed as having the ability or potential to make gifts between $10,000 to $50,000.

- Coordinate special projects, stewardship activities, and customized plans for prospects and donors as needed.

Alumni Programs Responsibilities:

- Develop, maintain, promote, and evaluate a strategic alumni plan and associated programming.

- Implement alumni programs, measuring against best practices, KPIs, and engagement metrics.

- Create and implement various alumni outreach and engagement programs to deepen connections between alumni and the School.

Requirements:

- University degree or equivalent education or experience.

- Progressive fundraising experience and relationship development, with a focus on major gift fundraising.

- Experience with alumni programs, relationship management, budgeting, and research.

- Excellent communication skills, written and oral, including expertise in creating donor-focused and impactful proposals.

- Proven competence in project management, multi-tasking, planning, analytical, and organizational skills.

Compensation:

The estimated salary for this role is between $69,331 and $94,371, depending on experience and qualifications.
