Housing Counselor for Resettlement Assistance Program

COSTI Immigrant Services is seeking a skilled Housing Counselor to join our Resettlement Assistance Program team. As a Housing Counselor, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful resettlement of government-assisted and privately-sponsored refugees in Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct housing searches in and outside of Toronto to secure suitable and affordable housing for refugees.
  • Escort clients to housing appointments and advocate on their behalf to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Recruit housing providers and maintain a comprehensive database of available housing options.
  • Provide crisis support and intervention as needed, and mentor volunteers to assist with housing searches and client escorting.
  • Maintain accurate program and statistical information in COSTI's database, preparing regular reports and updates for funders.
  • Deliver mandatory RAP Housing orientation sessions to educate clients on their housing options, costs, and rights and responsibilities.
  • Liaise with other professionals and organizations to ensure seamless service delivery.

Requirements:

  • Social Service Worker Diploma or equivalent with relevant practicum experience.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working in the Housing Help Sector.
  • Previous experience working with refugees, survivors of torture, persecution, war, or abuse.
  • Proven case management experience and fluency in any of the following languages: Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Somali, Amharic.
  • Knowledge of settlement and housing services, with a focus on the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions.
  • Ability to integrate anti-oppression, critical disability, LGBTQI2S, and trans-positivity approaches in support of strengths-based principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in Internet, Email, and Windows software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated experience in data-entry, documentation, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and coordination skills.
  • Ability to travel within the GTA using public transportation, with access to a vehicle considered an asset.
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Police check, completed within the past six months.
  • Full vaccination or exemption on human rights grounds, with the right to request documentation.
