Entomology Research Specialist

Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our research team as an Entomology Research Specialist. This is a 3-day per week internship opportunity that will support an applied research project examining the biodiversity of ants, beetles, and spiders on a recently reforested industrial site.
Key Responsibilities:- Insect sorting and identification – expected to comprise 80% or more of your time
- Field work: insect trap setup and collections as well as vegetation identification work on the focal research site and others
- Laboratory work such as root washing, weighing biomass and soil samples
- Data entry
- Experience or training in the identification of ants, beetles or spiders
- Strong attention to detail
- Able to work independently and in a team setting
- Enrolled in a diploma or BSc program in Forestry or Biology
- Class 5 license with clean drivers abstract
- $17.48 - $21.69 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of stat holidays and vacation accrual
- Casual opportunity covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement
