Peace River, Canada NAIT Full time

NAIT is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Research Associate to join our Forest Reclamation and Reforestation Team at the Centre for Boreal Research (CBR). This 1-year internship will support an applied research project examining the biodiversity of ants, beetles, and spiders on a recently reforested industrial site.

As an Environmental Research Associate, you will be responsible for setting up insect traps, field collection of insects, sorting insect samples, and identification of insects. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Insect sorting and identification – comprising 80% or more of your time
  • Field work: insect trap setup and collections as well as vegetation identification work on the focal research site and others
  • Laboratory work such as root washing, weighing biomass and soil samples
  • Data entry

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • Experience or training in the identification of ants, beetles, or spiders
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Physical fitness to handle outdoor work on uneven terrain
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting

This opportunity requires relocation to Peace River, Alberta. We offer a competitive salary range of $17.48 - $21.69 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of stat holidays and vacation accrual. This casual position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
